As a general rule, those who prepare for the heat before summer often find it easier to cope with the warm days. Many measures take time to put in place. Therefore, you should think about heat protection not just in summer or when it’s warm.
Below you will find some short- and long-term tips to help you prepare for the summer.
Talk to your loved ones about how they can protect themselves in hot weather. If possible, offer to help them prepare or to assist with errands during a heatwave.
Make sure you have suitable, lightweight textiles to hand for hot days and nights (e.g. suitable clothing and lightweight bed linen).
Check your stock of sun cream and the use-by dates (make sure it has a high sun protection factor).
Top up your supply of water or other drinks so that you can avoid unnecessary hassle when the first heatwave hits.
If possible, cook a few meals in advance and freeze them. You can leave these meals to defrost in the fridge the day before you plan to eat them. This way, you’ll avoid generating extra heat in your home when the weather gets hot.
Speak to your doctor in good time to find out whether and how you should take your medication in hot weather.
